Trump was able to hold a steady lead over his opponent Hillary Clinton from the very beginning of the exit polls. Donald Trump representing the republicans managed to win 276 seats with a whopping 57,823,858 votes while Clinton was only able to win 218 seats with 57,185,223 votes. There is only a difference of 1% votes if the percentage of votes each contender got is calculated. Now that the superpowers public has made this choice, let’s calculate what effect it is going to have on our lives as well as the global economy and other sectors.

As you can probably imagine – in the immediate aftermath of his success the Internet turned into a cesspit of support, condemnation, and downright fear: It is ironic to see that #ripamerica is trending higher than #trumpwins. Donald Trump, has defied every norm in politics, is openly misogynistic and contemptuous of minority groups, and speaks cavalierly of nuclear war. No one can guess as to what happens now.

Trump has pledged to take away health care coverage from 20 million people, with no actual plan to replace it. He has called for the largest tax cut in history, described climate change as a hoax and has no discernible policy for or interest in addressing it, talked about banning entire religious groups from entering the country and forcibly removing other ethnic groups.

He is not a conventional Republican, is a nativist, and one who has brought in his wake a scary thread of anti-Semitism and racism that has marred the entire 16-month presidential campaign. At a minimum, he will have the power to nominate justices to the Supreme Court, where there is currently one vacancy and several others could open soon.
