Dhoni Retired From T20 and ODI Captaincy.Know Why?

In a news that has surprised the whole earth, Mahendra Singh Dhoni has stepped down as India’s limited-overs skipper a while ago. He was about to lead the Indian contingent in the ICC Champions Trophy in UK in June this year, which will now be done by Virat Kohli, who was recently named captain of ICC ODI Team of the Year, 2016.

Dhoni retired from Tests late last year and was expected to make a decision after India’s World Cup campaign. Since then after every match the media has been hounding him as to when would he retire from other match formats. He had also hinted that he would take a decision on his future after the 2015 World Cup and made clear what his plans are today. Still the clear reasons as to what called for this phased retirement is still unknown. For the fans though, he still had a few more playing years left in him. We hope this does not affect the performance of the team in the upcoming matches.

Dhoni will be available for selection for the One Day and T20I series against England . The senior national selectors will pick the squad on Friday.

The hashtag #Dhoni has become trending on twitter in a matter of minutes. How could twitter not react to such a news ! Not only fans but also great cricketers took a minute to write about this move.

“MS has been the captain for the longest period in Indian cricket. He was brilliant. He obviously knows captaincy better than anybody else in terms of what the team requires. Having played with MS and knowing him really well, I don’t think him coming in as captain for the limited-overs internationals will be an issue at all,” said Anil Kumble, the current Indian coach.

But Kohli will now lead the side in all formats.
